Complex Health Issue
This one is quite a big one, and since I only did my prac a week ago, I wanted the input of some experts here.
My good friend has a lady wife called Charlie.
Charlie recently had a hystorectomy, however, hours after the operation she lost her speech and movement.
She was released from hospital 2 weeks later still unable to walk or speak, now movement has come back, but speech is still locked up.
Her speech is about one word a minute.
All suspected a stroke, but several brain scans show this is not the case at all.
She can drive a car, go shopping, and put the food away, BUT if someone ASKS or "COMMANDS" her to do it, even something simple, she cannot. Even say, pick up a remote control.
It seems a SELF command "I want to /choose to do this" works, but someone else asking or requesting, no can do.
She cannot do 2 things at once, eg speak AND do things at the same time.
No multi tasking.
My client found a website on Asphanasia, seems to be a simple condition.
So, she PHYSICALLY has the strategy to say, pick up a cop, but if she were ASKED by another to do it, she cannot. Nor can she do that and something else at the same time. The difference seems to be in the amount of things to do at once, and the fact someone else is asking or requesting (perhaps that is more than one thing at once in and of itself)
My guess (and remember I am newbie Prac only), is that there could be some kind of parts integration needed, and/or she could be taught to do things simultaneously though to the level of unconscious competence again.
If anyone has any other ideas, I would be really glad to hear from you.
All the best

Hi Longie -
What you are describing to me sounds like some type of neurological processing error or damage. She may not be responding to verbal commands because she lost blood flow to her language area during the stroke and it was damaged. I'd make sure she gets some neurological testing as well.
Not quite sure what NLP technique might help. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Parts Theory - Some Questions
I've had this email response from Tony Alexander,
I know it's unusual to be in hospital for two weeks afterwards but it was a histerectomy. Doubtless with the best intentions the potential mother was removed from a woman - probably by a man! Perhaps being told, by a man, that she must have this proceedure is as much ordering about as she's prepared to take from anyone for the time being, thank you very much!
As far as Parts Theory is concerned, Charlie probably feels that one of her parts (a creative one) has gone - FOR GOOD! It's a BIG deal, so:-
1) Was Charlie given expert counselling before the op?
2) How good were the communication skills of the surgeon?
3) Has Charlie received expert counselling since the op?
4) Does Charlie regularly practise a meditative activity?
I'm rather concerned about 2).
If 3) and 4) are addressed over time things might improve.
I hope this helps, I'm sure I'm not the first to think of the above!
Kind regards
