Default Hypnotic language

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the question.

A suggestion and a couple more questions:

I'm taking a bit of a risk here because I'm going to recommnd something I have't seen! (although I'm now going to buy them myself to check them out). For learning hypnotic language by reputation I'd recommend Jamie Smart's influence and hypnosis cards:

NLP Experts - Books - NLP - Recommended

However I also think its also worth going through the proccess of how to create your own patterns. However to do this I need a specific context.

So if you're interested in persuing this would you suggest (purely for illustration) a business context your potential client is in and what you would like to achieve through using hypnotic language.

Default Hypnotic language example

Michael,

Motivating sales people: sales manager is probably going to miss his target; some of his sales reps have exceeded theirs but more have not; best way to get to the team target is for the overachievers to do even more; but this will set the bar higher for them next year; need to convince the over-achievers to focus on 'now' and deliver more, even if this is not in their personal interests.

Regards

Martin

Default Hypnotic language

Hi Martin,
I've found that Robert Anue's Zebu cards are also very good for learning Hypnotic language patterns. Here's a link to his site Zebu Cards - Hypnotic Language Patterns - Ericksonian Hypnosis (I just checked to see if they were still for sale!)

I think that language patterns are something that need to be practiced, and practiced and practiced and ... you get the idea! I've heard people try to use them who were far from fluent and who came across as complete morons.

I'm not sure if you've done some training in NLP but if you've done Practitioner training have you've probably got all the patterns in your manual. My best advice is to take each pattern and just try applying it to various contexts. You don't even have to do this in the context just think about how you could use it if you were in that context so that you start to feel comfortable with them.

Looking at your last post in response to Michaels request for more information,

I'm not sure that hypnotic language is the answer and I also wonder how ecological it will be for the sales people to do more...
Hope this helps,
Steph

Default Hypnotic Language

Hi Martin,

Thanks for a really, really useful question, and Stephanie thanks for your reply.

I think its a useful questions because it brings to light some important issues and approaches.

Firstly (and I'm not neccassarily talking about this particular issue) I have a firm belief that if anyone went out of their way to use any influence technique to get someone do something not in thats persons interest - Then the other person may, when they find out seek revenge - And some will do it very effectively.....just a gentle caution.

Of course the interesting question is what is actually in the other persons interest?

Is there a context in which it is in the top sales peoples interest to sell more now? Or they get some benefit of their team succeeding? (Interesting question of targets?)

For the sake of the particular scenario lets assume we've found a positive reason for the top sales people sell more now. I'm going to create some bonus for the team achieving target (read sales managers target?) - I'm sure you'll come up with a better example.

Then could we create some useful language.

The first part would be to pace the top sales peoples current experience (say some thing that is true to them ) like:

You've worked hard, achieved your target - and are probably concerned about next years target.

The second part is say what you want:

But I need you to produce another xxxxx, so we can meet the teams target,

You can then introduce some hypnotic language in the third part:

Luckily, you've already shown you have the ability to do this, so I look forward to your contribution.

(As Stephanie says see page 39 and 46 onwards of the SNLP [section 3] of our manual).

Let me know if this does/doesn't make any sense!

ps hypnotic language will improve and emphasise whatever works . If it isn't working change what isn't working first.

Thoughts?

Default Hypnotic influence cards

The hypnotic influence influence and hypnosis cards I ordered on the 26, arrived today. They are a very good way of learning the patterns and highly recommended as such. However learning the patterns is only a part of using them effectively. You need to understand the context and be clear the outcome or direction you want to achieve.

The hypnotic influence influence and hypnosis cards

Also for business using less tends to be more effective, because it's less obvious you're using them, whereas for more traditional hypnosis using more patterns can be more effective.

Default Hypnosis for business

Hi Paul,

Good question, and I appreciate my answer a is huge generalisation.......so it depends on context. In business the occasional piece of 'hypnotic language' can simply make communication smoother. A bit like oil reducing friction. Too much and it can cause confusion. And may create the impression that the person using it is a bit odd.

A number of delegates come out of some practitioner and master seminars practicing their language skills out of context of the actual business situation. It takes them a bit of time to get the context, their outcome and the language in line. When they do they dramatically increase their impact.

On the ther hand when 'officially'(?!) doing hypnosis the client may expect some confusion and layering lots of hypnotic language can be very helpful in leading them to somewhere thats useful to them.

Default Hypnotic language to motivate sales reps and the cards

Still thinking about Steph and Michael's suggestions - the ecological/ethical bit about pressurizing sales reps (or anyone) with hypnotic language. If you work in a high pressure company, there will be pressure to excel/exceed targets - is it unethical to create/increase that pressure by using hypnotic language - or is this effective influencing - I was mulling over how hypnotic language would make the process of overachieving more effective/accepted by all. Still pondering.

The Salad Hypnosis cards are useful (size of playing cards) - got them earlier this week and rehearsed phrases on a flight back from Bulgaria. Very good way to pass the time and the subject I did the phrases about is still at the top of my mind. Didn't use a game format (yet), they're just a useful size to have in your hand and think about.

Regards

Martin
