Liam : So Michael if somebody was interested in NLP and wanted to take it further are there any books that you recommend that they read?
Michael : I think that there are a lot of good NLP books, but there are three that I will particularly recommend at the moment.
The first one is by co-founder Richard Bandler, it's called Trance-formation. It's a recent book, and it's very good. It's a lot better than a lot of the preceding books. So if somebody wants to get an idea of hypnosis and NLP, this is a very good place to start.
The next one is also by Richard, and it's called Get the Life You Want, and there again there are some very good exercises in this. If you get the book it would be very useful to get a friend or colleague and actually go through the exercises. You'll get a lot more benefit if you actually have somebody go through it with you rather than if you were just to read it yourself. But even reading it yourself you will pick up things that are useful.
The third one that I am going to recommend is slightly different, it's more of a business book. It's called, strangely enough NLP in Business, and he's one of the few other NLP Business trainers that I would recommend. If you're interested in the business side of NLP, than this is a really good book.
Liam : OK, and I hear that you have an NLP Newsletter. Could you just tell us a little bit about it?
Michael : We have an NLP Newsletter that goes out to about five thousand people every month. There again it's completely free, you can subscribe or unsubscribe whenever you want. And here again the link to the newsletter is on our forum.
Liam : And what about the NLP Experts Forum that you run and the podcast series that you have?
Michael : The object of the forum is to get people to speak in a little bit more depth about NLP, and we run a monthly podcast where someone will speak for ten, fifteen, twenty-five minutes on some NLP related, or communicates related issue. Maybe it won't be about NLP, but it may be about selling or cold-calling. But the key theme would be something to do with communication skills. We do one every month and it's free for people to listen to or to read.
Liam : Are there any NLP CD's or DVD's that people should know about?
Michael : There again we have a wide selection of CD's and DVD's, but there are two that I'd bring to everybody's attention if you haven't already come across them.
The first one is this one, The Class of The Master - which is again Richard, in front of a large audience - and again, it's great. It's a great way of picking up attitudes, ideas, stories, and it's quite fun to watch.
There is a DVD called The Marshall Tapes, which is Richard about twenty years ago doing one-to-one sessions with clients, and it's quite interesting seeing one of the co-founders of NLP doing one-to-one work.
Liam : What about if somebody wanted to go ahead and actually do some training in NLP? What would you suggest they do?
Michael : I still think that training is the best way to learn NLP, because you get people into a safe atmosphere with - in our case - few other people with whom you can really push out this stuff and test the limits. The one thing that makes people good is practice, and the one thing that we will give people is solid practice in the best of NLP, with the best of people to practice it with.
So if you can afford the budget, if you are really serious about getting into NLP, then I strongly recommend the training. And you can find a link to the training through the forum site.
